A destructive hail storm stuck Eldora on Sunday, August 9. 2009. baseball-sized hail broke windows, demolished cars, damaged roofs, tore siding off homes and devastated crops. Ten windows were broken in the Eldora parsonage. Stained glass windows on two sides of the sanctuary were broken ; water soaked the carpeting. Virtually every building in the town of 3,500 was impacted.

A Rethink Church event was held on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Nearly 70 laity and clergy from the central part of the state gathered to learn more about new ways of being the church and begin to plan how to move their faith communities out into the world.

A Prayer Service to support Sisters as they begin their nine state tour was held on June 17, 2012 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Des Moines. Dozens of Iowa United Methodists were present to pray for the encourage the Nuns who embarked on a mission to meet the needs of poor and vulnerable people and advocate for fair federal budgets.

Miller United Methodist Church held it's final service in its 114 year history on Sunday, June 10, 2012 and celebrated the beginning of a new chapter of ministry in that location by giving the church to the Hispanic-Latino outreach of Las Americas Comunidad de Fe. The new faith community, to be called Amor y Paz - Love and Peace, will begin worshipping in July

Members of Trinity UMC in Des Moines gathered after worship on August 30, 2009, to write letters in support of health care legislation to Iowa's two Senators and to Representative Leonard Boswell. Bishop and Mrs. Trimble were at Trinity/Las Americas for worship and joined in the letter writing.

The stained glass windows in the Chapel of the Conference Center were dedicated in a service on Thursday, May 17, 2012. The windows are a gift from Rev. Kennet and Gayle Royar. Dr. Charles Smith, Bishop Julius Calvin Trimble, Rev.Ted Lyddon Hatten and other members of the Conference leadership participated in the dedication service that was also attended by members of the Ministry Cabinet and Conference Center staff.
The Burns faith community celebrated its first Sunday in its new home on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. Burns moved to the former Gatchel UMC building on Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway in Des Moines. Representatives from the former Gatchel congregation welcomed the Burns community, including celebrating Burns' acceptance and use of Gatchel's altar cross. Conference Superintendent Rev. Photos of school bags sent from Bloomfield Iowa to a school in a village in Nigeria. Dr. Arthur L. McClanahan took the photos in the Summer of 2010 showing that the gifts collected at the annual Thanksgiving Ingathering do make a difference in the lives of people in other areas of the world.
Bloomfield United Methodist Church (Central District) broke ground on Saturday, August 15, 2009 for its new addition. The work, set to be completed by November, includes construction of a new fellowship hall, classrooms, office space, a redesign of the current sanctuary, and expanded parking. Rev. Cindy Hickman is the Pastor.

Be Encouraged Mission Day 2010
Retired clergy and spouses gathered at New Hope United Methodist Church, Des Moines, for their annual fall gathering. Bishop Julius Calvin Trimble was the preacher for the morning worship. Mrs. Racelder Grandberry-Trimble spoke to the group asking. "What's In A Name?" Betty Palmer addressed pension and health care concerns. Rev. Bob Burkhart called the gathering to order. The "Singing Gourmet" was the chef for and sang during the lunchtime.
